Hello all, this is my first post here at Speight of the art forum.

I'm so glad there is going to be a lasting legacy for Mark, he was truly a wonderful and inspiring artist. My family love him and mourned his loss deeply.

Awards for young people using art to CHANGEit

CHANGEit is an award scheme run by Common Purpose and supported by Deutsche Bank that recognises, supports and rewards young campaigners aged 11-18 in the UK who are making a difference in their communities.

We believe there are so many ways young people can make a difference and art is one way to make it fun! This year we're running a photography contest and we're looking for young people's photos of 'campaigning in action' that has been started or helped by other young people.

In addition, we have prizes of up to £750 in two other categories:

Has anyone got any tips for getting started with acrylics?

I took some fantastic photos of a walk up snowdon and have turned them into paintings of sorts using photoshop.

But what I'd really like to do is paint them of some canvases I bought from Partners a while back.

I've got a set of paints, and one or two brushes, and a mixing tray, and as someone who has only ever painted using water colours, I'm a bit unsure of any techniques for using acrylics.

If anyone has any tips, techniques, even cleaning or mixing colour advice it would all be welcome.

Draw A Crowd, Burton-on-Trent.

Draw A Crowd is an exhibition running at the Brewhouse in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, from Saturday October 18 to Saturday November 22, 2008.

Community Groups and young people have been working with artist Ruth Allen in producing drawing and prints for this exhibition celebrating the Big Draw Campaign 2008. The Campaign for Drawing has one aim: to get everyone drawing! Over 1000 UK venues will take part in the ninth Big Draw from 1st to 31st October 2008. This annual programme shows that drawing is the perfect medium for observation, self-expression and fun.

Abbot Beyne school exhibition

Opening on Friday October 3, 2008, in the bar bistro area of the Brewhouse Arts Centre, Union Street, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, is an exhibition of artwork by youngsters from a local secondary school.

Work by pupils at Key Stages 4 and 5 will be on show on the walls around the bar and foyer area until Saturday November 22.

The exhibition will feature the work of pupils on a range of courses that Abbot Beyne teaches including AVCE, AS/A level, Applied GCSE and GCSE.
